This is an alternative to System 2.  This system uses a voltage inverter to power a high capacity 3/4 horsepower AC backup pump from three 12 volt batteries.  A separate discharge line is also used for the backup pump, which increases the amount of water that can be pumped and eliminates the possibility that failure of a single discharge line can disable both pumps.

Key Benefits

bulletAdds backup capability for a loss of power or primary pump failure
bulletHigh flow backup pump capacity exceeds that of typical primary pumps
bulletIncludes a high water alarm to notify you of primary pump failure
bulletSounds alarm to notify you of battery failure

Limitations

bulletRun time less than a typical battery powered pump (System 2)
bulletPumping capacity could be exceeded by a very significant rainfall

Stats

With Utility Power During Power Outage
Pumping Capacity (gpm)1 120 72
Pumping Time at 35 gpm (hours)2 No Limit 6.2

1 Pumping capacity is at the estimated operating point assuming 8 feet of lift is required.  See the Get Technical pages for details.

2 During a typical rainfall, continuous operation at 35 gpm would not be required, so pumping time would be significantly longer.
